Doraemon In a Tub,,,

Hahahahaha... Doraemon in a tub was what Xavier's dad chose for his 1st birthday. Apparently, Doraemon is Xavier's favorite cartoon... 1 year old has already shown his preference!! Hahaha..

Anyway, Xavier will be having a grand party today and the cake must be big enough to cater for all... and since a lot of the guests are Xavier's grand uncles and aunties, a safe flavor of cake was chosen.. a marbled butter cake. This cake weighing in at 3.5kg was sold for RM380.

Tangerine Cheesecake with a swirl of chocolate...

Tangerine and Chinese New Year are twins!! hahahahaha... I was asked to create something interesting for a friend's open house party.. something easy to eat and refreshing.. and me being me, wasnt happy to just pick out one of the many cakes I have made.... so, while I was cracking my head, an idea came to me..... slices of tangerine! Hahahahaha...slices of tangerine sitting on a cheesecake....

So, to make it really interesting, I revised the normal cheesecake and added a big slosh of orange and tangerine juice, a tiny slosh of orange liquor, lots of orange peel and when I taste test it, I still felt something is missing.. something to give it a boost... what??!! what??!!!... until I saw my Green & Blacks staring back at me... ooooooo....

And with a 80% cacao chocolate in hand, I melted that and swirl it into the cheesecake... Viola!! you never could have guest that a tiny swirl of chocolate could create such an effect! It was explosively awesome! Hahahahahahaa...

So, with the slices of tangerine stuck in my head, with the cheesecake all made up.. with a small secret nicely tucked in the cake.... I went about to create what I have in mind.... The above! Hahahahahaa.... it was simply spectacular if I may say so! and as for my friend.. she was beaming like a child with her first angpau! Hahahahaha..

This is on sale for RM110... heh! heh! heh!.... for an explosive CNY treat.. why not??

Gong Xi! Gong Xi! The Dragon is here....

The year of the rabbit is coming to an end... and what an ending it was!! I was super busy at work, my daughter is leaving for her holiday and my baking business took off unexpectedly! Do you call this ending with a Bang! ?? Hehehehe..

It's not easy to work and do business part time. All the unexpected datelines, problems do creep up at the most inappropriate timing..and all the helter skelter can kill creativity!! Hahahaha... Anyway, that is my work which has gone crazy and that left me with very little time to work on my orders. Hence, this year, nothing new was created... the usual Jam tarts, kueh bangkit and layer cake. The additional cookie I made this year is orange cranberry cookies and a simple shortbread that melts in the mouth. That has created my business to go sky high! Woo hooo...

The orange cranberry cookie started out as a special request from a friend who loves this cookie. But her order keep increasing.. and increasing and increasing.. Hahahahahahaha.. she is such a kind lady who simply wanted everyone she knows to enjoy this cookie. Her comment about this cookie is that it is simply fab! Not too sweet.. very fragrant (the orange peel).. crispy and melts in the mouth texture and the little bits of cranberry is simply fantastic.

As for the shortbread.. that was something I have always wanted to try... a very crispy and melt in the mouth cookie. I should have made it in a few different flavours..sigh.. work does that to me.. make me forget about everything else except my work and datelines. Hahahahaha...

Anyway, Chinese New Year season has never been a hectic time for me as I rarely concentrate on cookies, a manpower issue but this year, was exceptional. Business bloom and blossomed! haahahahaahaha.. so, after work, when I got home, is start work immediately.. making my cookies and tart. Thank the almighty for my aunt and cousin who came by to help me out and I got all my orders out in time...Thank you KP and Lengyi!!!

So, before I forget... GONG XI FA CAI!!! The new year will bring in the dragon... May the Dragon fire up your passion, good fortune, happiness and good health..

Gong Xi! Gong Xi! Gong Xi!

Carousel of Happiness...

Time really fly.. it was less than a year ago that I was commissioned by Irvin's mama to make cuppies for his full moon party. Irvin was a very handsome baby and I came up with 6 very cute design to compliment Irvin. Irvin's mama was so impressed and thrilled! Hahahahaha...

A year later, today, I made Irvin's first birthday cake. Yes! hehehe.. Irvin's mama "booked" my time for his cake when Irvin was 7 months.. hehehe.. she was excited to see what I would come up with. Whenever she enquire about the design, I keep telling her it's a secret... she will get to see it on Irvin's birthday. Irvin's mama is a very sporting lady.. she laughed and very happily agreed to the price I quoted her..

On the day Irvin's mama came to pick up the cake, she was stunned! she was speechless! she was quiet for awhile and when she finally said something, it was.."WOW!! Irvin is a very lucky boy! The cake is more than awesome!! Thank you! thank you!" Hahahahhaaha..

The biggest joy about doing what I am doing is receiving all sorts of compliments and having a customer turn into a friend. I measure my success thru the joy in the child's eyes when he or she receives my cake or the squeal of happiness from my customers or the generous recommendation of my work to their friends.

Anyway, back to Carousel of Happiness cake, Irvin's dad was a bit apprehensive about whether they will end up with a lot of cake, as this cake is rather large, weighing in at 5.2kg and they didnt have that many guests.. approximately 50 guests.. When the party started and after the cake cutting do, he didnt have anything to worry about! Hahahaha.. according to Irvin's mama, the cake was "polished" off.. everyone taking more than 2 helpings and the combination of Orange butter cake with a swirl of chocolate was simply fabulous. Everyone love it! Yay!!

Hahahaha... Irvin's mama told me that this round, her maid was clever to bring along a plastic container to pack up some pieces of cake for the Irvin and Ian.. a lesson she learnt from Ian's recent birthday party where the whole cake was gone before either Irvin or Ian had a chance to eat. Hehehehehe... now, that, is success!

This cake was sold for RM550 and it took a total of 12 hours to get it done. All 12 hours was well worth it.

Local delicacy - Woo Tau Koh (yam cake)

The other day as I was watering my vegetables, I noticed one of my yam plants was pushing out of the soil and out of curiosity, I pull out and lo and behold! a reasonably sized yam was looking back at me. Hehehehe... it didnt take a long time to grew yam as I thought. Goodie! I have another 3 yam plants in my vegetable patch.. hehehe...

Anyway, I couldnt make up my mind as to what I want to make with the precious yam I harvested.. Should I cook the yam with chicken? Should I make a chinese dessert with the yam? Should I simply deep fried the yam? At the end, I was exhausted trying to figure out what I am going to do with the yam when I remembered that I have always crave a good woo tau koh.. aka yam cake.

Frankly, I prefer salty or savory kuehs and when I was young, I remember eating very good woo tau koh.. nothing like the ones nowadays. The ones we get nowadays are simply an insult to the mouth! Terrible texture, terrible flavor, terrible combination... tsk! tsk! tsk! Because of this, I have not eaten woo tau koh for a long long time. So, this morning, I set out to make a goot tray of woo tau koh.. hehehe.. I dug out my home science book from school days and went to make myself a good tray of woo tau koh...

Woo Tau Koh is relatively easy to make if you have all the right proportions of flour and water. There is also a little mixture of different flour to give the kueh a very slight bounce but yet, it's not firm or too soft... As for flavor, oo.. I like to add a little bit of home made 5 spice powder to bring out the yam flavor... Hehehehe.. and of course, a generous serving of dried prawns..but nothing is as important as the yam.. it must be fluffy, floury, flavorful.

Once the kueh is done steaming, it's important to add in the garnishing immediately. I like to have the traditional garnishing which are spring onions, fried shallots, garlic, dried prawns and chili.. Nothing beats the look of a well garnished woo tau koh.. it has such a happy color.. hehehe..

Once the kueh is properly cooled down, I couldnt wait to dig in.. Hahaha.. and it was just in time for Tea. I had a number of pieces as it was too yummy.. even without sauce.. usually, it's eaten with a combination of sweet sauce and chili sauce which I am not a big fan of. I like my food savory if it's meant to be savory.... hehehehe..

Oh yes, what I will do with the leftovers? Hehehee.. I am a chinese and nothing goes to waste.. Any leftovers will be lightly pan fried and eaten with chili sauce. woo hooo.. my breakfast is done for tomorrow!
