A Tart Affair

This is good on hot hot days when you just dont feel like eating anything. Hehehehe.. Made this impromptu and was surprised by the taste! The mangoes were succulent and juicy but firm and seductive while the blueberries were just awesome! Never thought that blueberries are mangoes best friends.. Anyways..

The pastry was melt in the mouth which I love with a not too rich custard filling. Yes, in such heat, you dont want to eat anything that is rich... light but not too light is good and that's the custard I made...

So, overall, I gobbled these up with 2 girlfriends and was rather sad we didnt have more to gobble. But anyhow, will be making more of these and plan to sell them for RM8.50 each. with a minimum order of 6.

Something pretty for Hot Hot Days

These days are crazy hot!! The sun is blazing brightly, the heat is exceptionally high and painful if you are outdoor and the humidity is all time high.. Everything turns bad fast in such heat. Appetite is also all time low with everyone trying to battle the heat with liquid..

On such times, I only want to eat cold stuff.. koniyaku jellies, all sorts of jellies.. ice lollies, ice creams ooh.. all the sinful cold sweet stuff which is bad for the waist! Hahahahaha... but who cares! I shall sweat it off from the heat.

Anyway, recently a friend went to Tokyo and got me some preseved Sakura flowers... The flowers are preserved in lots of salt and at the first sight, they dont look impressive  but after washing off the salt and soaking it a bit, the flowers bloomed looking very pretty and delicate..

When I saw the flower floating prettily in a cup of water, I was inspired to make a pretty koniyaku just like what Terry from http://hungerhunger.blogspot.com/ did.  Hehehehe... I think it's just so pretty on a hot hot day...

Foodelicious! Presents... Dinners!!

I was approached by a lady over the phone one day and she enquired if I was keen to cook for her on Sunday and she drops by to pick the food up. I was taken by surprised!! Hahahahaha.. and so, from that day, I was thrown into the roller coaster of dinner catering ..there is the planning of the menu, the sourcing of ingredients and finally, the works. Tiring but a good experience and an opportunity to explore my cooking creativity. Heh! heh! heh!

As these food are kept in the fridge as most of my customers are working people, I am mindful that the food I propose have to taste just as good if not better after being kept in the fridge. Hence, a lot of times, I make sure I have a variety of meat and vegetables that can be kept for a few days in the fridge and taste as good as it was just freshly cooked.

Oh yes!! we working people do have many challenge when it comes to dinner. For one, eating out may not be as fun as one thinks with the crowd and not knowing what to eat to the need to be cautious for health reasons. For another, sometimes after a grilling day at work, mentally exhausted and simply tired, cooking seems like a mount everest climb do! You just dont want to do anything else except rest.. So, I suppose that's why the lady wanted something she could just heat up and eat without having to worry about what to eat, what to cook, marketing, cooking, cleaning and more cleaning. Hehehehe..

So, every Wednesdays, I have the menu posted on my FB, come Sunday, customers swing by my house to collect their yummy food for the week. Interested? Drop me a line and I can add you to my list of dinner customers! Wooit!

Comfort Food - Beef stew with home made focaccia bread

Every week I will make a loaf of focaccia bread for my monster and myself.. I usually bring to office and indulge in a bit of luxury with Gouda cheese on toast. It's a real yummy treat especially on a working morning. However, this week, I wanted something different with my focaccia bread. I wanted somethinng comforting... and my mind immediately turn to a warm comfy food of beef stew.

My style of beef stew is simple to make and has lots of vegetables that I like, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, potatoes, zucchini.. the gravy is flavorful and best with bread...ooo... Yes!! this is really good on rainy nights or simply for dinners infront of TV...

Comfort Food - Beef Pies

This is what I made with my leftovers of beef stew. Sometimes, we just gotta improvised and create something new from a already bored dish. Hehehehe.. Yes, with rising cost of living and issue with excess waste by us, human, we just gotta get creative!

So, with some leftovers, I set out to create my beef stew pie which uses shortcrust pastry instead of puff. If I have to chose between these 2 pastries, I will always take shortcrust. It's a healthier pastry compared to puff. Yes, if you bake and see the amount of oil oozing out of puff pastry, you will switch to shortcrust. The oil used in puff pastry is really sticky and frankly, I always imagine it in my stomach and dont like the picture!

Oh yes.. picture... hehee.. my guests and monster polished off all the pies and they are happy as a bee with this pie. I pair it with healthy steamed vegetables like brocolli and cauliflower, fresh cherry tomatoes.. Yumms!!

If you are wondering.. yes, these pies are for sale at RM8.90 each with a minimum order of 10. The steamed vegetables are not included!
