Foodelicious! Presents... Dinners!!

I was approached by a lady over the phone one day and she enquired if I was keen to cook for her on Sunday and she drops by to pick the food up. I was taken by surprised!! Hahahahaha.. and so, from that day, I was thrown into the roller coaster of dinner catering ..there is the planning of the menu, the sourcing of ingredients and finally, the works. Tiring but a good experience and an opportunity to explore my cooking creativity. Heh! heh! heh!

As these food are kept in the fridge as most of my customers are working people, I am mindful that the food I propose have to taste just as good if not better after being kept in the fridge. Hence, a lot of times, I make sure I have a variety of meat and vegetables that can be kept for a few days in the fridge and taste as good as it was just freshly cooked.

Oh yes!! we working people do have many challenge when it comes to dinner. For one, eating out may not be as fun as one thinks with the crowd and not knowing what to eat to the need to be cautious for health reasons. For another, sometimes after a grilling day at work, mentally exhausted and simply tired, cooking seems like a mount everest climb do! You just dont want to do anything else except rest.. So, I suppose that's why the lady wanted something she could just heat up and eat without having to worry about what to eat, what to cook, marketing, cooking, cleaning and more cleaning. Hehehehe..

So, every Wednesdays, I have the menu posted on my FB, come Sunday, customers swing by my house to collect their yummy food for the week. Interested? Drop me a line and I can add you to my list of dinner customers! Wooit!

Lunch at Secret Garden - Penang Curry Mee

When I was young, I wasnt much of a Curry Laksa fan..I still am not because very simply, my stomach has never been good and such rich and spicy dish dont sit well . This was always the case until years ago when I was in Penang. I had a spoonful of Penang Curry Mee from my uncle's bowl and I was bowled over!!

Penang Curry Mee is very light.. not thick with coconut. Infact, it's the opposite! It's light but fragrant and the taste is very pleasing. The broth is lightly flavored with a few simple spices balance off with enough coconut to please the tastebud. Where else, the condiments that went along with Penang Curry Mee is simple ingredients... a bit of bean sprout and long beans, a generous helping of freshly steamed prawns, slices of tender cuttlefish, a good heap of freshly peeled cockles garnished with mint and lots of taufoo puffs. For those who enjoy a more spicer kick, a spoonful of home made chili sambal will transform this Penang Curry Mee to another level of excitement!

Recently, I was craving for a good bowl of Penang Curry mee but couldnt find any in KL, so, I decided to make! Hehehe... read thru a few so called authentic Penang nyonya recipes but didnt quite find a good enough recipe to entice me.. so, decided to pick my aunt's brain on this. hehehe.. my aunt grew up in Penang and is a great cook.. So, with her information.. I set out to create this new excitement!

And yes! it was indeed great excitement to see my guests tucking into their bowls of Penang Curry Mee. Yes, it was bowls. They had a few rounds of it and was happily enjoying every single mouthfuls of it. Even the kids had a go at it! Hehehehe.. With that, I consider this a complete success! My Penang Curry Mee party at my secret garden was served with refreshingly chilled konikyaku jellies and a Roselle sangria drink. And yes, Roselle syrup are made from my secret garden too.... Life cannot be any better... great friends, good food and perfect weather are hard to come by these days...

Sunday Lunch - Nasi Tomato

This is what I served for my Sunday Lunch at my secret garden... Nasi Tomato with patcri nenas, timun acar and ayam masak merah. The acar timun is simply crunchy and refreshing.. the flavor is very light and appetising especially when you pair it with patcri nenas. I don't know about you people but patcri nenas is excellent with rice. Of course, one has to make sure the patcri nenas is wickedly delicious! Hehehe..

This lunch couldn't have been more appropriate with the current weather that is simply lovely.. breezy with a gentle sun.. Life is beautiful!!

Party Food - Sambal Ikan Bilis & Simple Fried Bihun

Sambal Ikan Bilis
This is the most versatile dish for parties! You can have it with rice for those who cannot live without rice.. or, if you are funky, you can have them on crackers with a paper thin slice of cucumber. Or.. you can lightly toast some slices of baguette and top this on top with some sesame seeds. It's simply YUMMMS!! You just have to make sure you have plenty of such Hors d'Oeuvres ready. Hehehehehe..

Simple Fried Bihun
I love this no fuss, no frills bihun. I usually dont flavor this bihun with soya sauce or oyster sauce to retain the original color. Instead, this bihun is flavored with lots of shredded cabbage, carrots, chinese mushrooms, chicken fillet and fish cakes. Oh yes!! this is one helluva flavorful bihun. Yes, looks can be very very deceiving.

Anyway, this flavorful bihun is excellent for parties as it compliments other side dishes very well... for this party, this bihun complimented the sambal ikan bilis excellently! So, this is one dish where you can either eat it on its own or together with something else for some Ooomph!

Boxing Chicken
Ooooo.. this is my favorite! It depends on the crowd of the party. If it is for kids, I will not flavor this with anything more than the usual flavoring ingredients.. Kids like them original! Hehehehe...

But if it is for an adult party, I usually make this spicy... and see them disappear... hehehe.. yes, the adults will devour them in a jiffy and as such, I always tell my clients to get more!

Party Food - Tuna Cups

You see these pretty cups? I made them using puff pastry. I have always wanted to try making these cups.. they are known as vol-au-vont. The art of making such cups is to make your puff pastry evenly.. meaning, rolliing out your dough in uniform thickness throughout. This is not easy to do at all!! If the pastry is not rolled out evenly, the pastry will not puff up in an uniform manner.. hence, no cup.. more like a loopsided cup or no puff up at all!!

Once I made the cups, I add in tuna.. tuna mixed with a little bit of everything to make it scrumptious.. Of course, you can let imagine run riot by having all sorts of filling instead of tuna.....

These are great for parties.. there is a minimum order of 45 pieces at RM2.50 each for savory and RM3.50 for sweet filling.

Afternoon Tea@Foodelicious!

Afternoon Tea @ Foodelicious consist of scrumptious sandwiches of 2 variants, 2 sweet and 1 savory pastries or 1 sweet and 2 savory pastries, whichever to your liking, a tea cake and not forgetting warm scones with butter or clotted cream and fruit preserve of the week. This set also comes with a pot of tea for 2 with the usual condiments of sugar and milk.

However, as the weather these days is scourching hot and sunny, the pot of tea was replaced by jugs of cold and refreshing lemonade, in this case, it is pink lemonade for the week.

At this moment, Afternoon Tea@ Foodelicious is by invitation only but there are plans to make this a regular weekend affair and I must say, it is exceptionally fun to have afternoon tea in the small corner of this world named Foodelicious!

Coolers To The Rescue....

What do you do when the weather turn hot and humid? The sun blazes it full force, sorching everything it touches and the humidity makes your hair turn wiry and your skin sticky.. I made these to combat such discomfort...

Soyabean coolers with peaches are great for those who love something milky but yet refreshing.

Ribena coolers with a twist! I added something in these ribena coolers that will make it addictive! No.. it is nothing illegal.

The dollop on my ribena magic coolers is my home made lime sorbet... A real heat and thirst killer! Oh! forgot, it is also addictive.

Expresso coolers with cream. This is for die hard coffee fans. Coffee doesnt have to be hot and steaming all the time especially on such hot days....

Pavlovas

This is a very funky dessert! It is a marriage between a macaroons, fresh fruits and cream and the result is.... HEAVEN!

I have made the macaroons less sweet and thus, it is very addictive with a dollop of luxurious rich cream and tangy fruits.

These are sold at RM8 each with a minimum order of 20. Dont you go sighing about the quantity... you will finish them before you know it.
