Coconut Candies

This is something I remembered about my childhood. Coconut candy was a big thing during my time as there was no Garrett popcorn or funky treats then. Life was simple and it was easy to please us. hehehehe.. simple ingredients like grated coconut, sugar and milk could give us so much thrill and mamas will always use this as a bribe. hahahahahaha..

I learnt how to make this when I was 10 years old and it was tedious to make but for a 10 years old, it was fun! hahahahahaha.. and over the years, I do make this off and on just for fun or to pack as gifts for people who appreciate such simple treat.

Anyway, this round I made a pandan flavor which is colored in green and a mixture of vanilla and rose for the pink ones... The pink ones are simply addictive! Woo hoo......

These were sold for a wedding party at RM25 for the square container.. RM35 for the round container and RM12 for the trial pack.. heh! heh! heh!

Gong Xi! Gong Xi! The Dragon is here....

The year of the rabbit is coming to an end... and what an ending it was!! I was super busy at work, my daughter is leaving for her holiday and my baking business took off unexpectedly! Do you call this ending with a Bang! ?? Hehehehe..

It's not easy to work and do business part time. All the unexpected datelines, problems do creep up at the most inappropriate timing..and all the helter skelter can kill creativity!! Hahahaha... Anyway, that is my work which has gone crazy and that left me with very little time to work on my orders. Hence, this year, nothing new was created... the usual Jam tarts, kueh bangkit and layer cake. The additional cookie I made this year is orange cranberry cookies and a simple shortbread that melts in the mouth. That has created my business to go sky high! Woo hooo...

The orange cranberry cookie started out as a special request from a friend who loves this cookie. But her order keep increasing.. and increasing and increasing.. Hahahahahahaha.. she is such a kind lady who simply wanted everyone she knows to enjoy this cookie. Her comment about this cookie is that it is simply fab! Not too sweet.. very fragrant (the orange peel).. crispy and melts in the mouth texture and the little bits of cranberry is simply fantastic.

As for the shortbread.. that was something I have always wanted to try... a very crispy and melt in the mouth cookie. I should have made it in a few different flavours..sigh.. work does that to me.. make me forget about everything else except my work and datelines. Hahahahaha...

Anyway, Chinese New Year season has never been a hectic time for me as I rarely concentrate on cookies, a manpower issue but this year, was exceptional. Business bloom and blossomed! haahahahaahaha.. so, after work, when I got home, is start work immediately.. making my cookies and tart. Thank the almighty for my aunt and cousin who came by to help me out and I got all my orders out in time...Thank you KP and Lengyi!!!

So, before I forget... GONG XI FA CAI!!! The new year will bring in the dragon... May the Dragon fire up your passion, good fortune, happiness and good health..

Gong Xi! Gong Xi! Gong Xi!

Christmas Cookies...

A repeat of last year's creation... why not? since it was a sell out and this year, it was a request from the customers! Hahahahaha... These made perfect gift for all and what can you ask for for the price of RM25?? Good cheers, great flavor shortbread and most all, pretty looking thing to give!

Oh this is another item requested by my customers!! Well, even if they dont request, I will make this as I love this.. with the cool and rainy weather, it's so good to munch on this. The heat from the fresh ginger I used discreetly warms you up as you munch on this crispy and aromatic cookie.. Santa would be very happy with this! Hehehehe..

This was sold for RM25 each... and just like the shortbread above, it was a sold out! Again, I am blessed..

Christmas Cakes...

Christmas is the best time of the year!! For one, the weather is cool with lots of rain, my favorite, everything else is slowing down in anticipation of a new year.. what better time to bake and spread the spirit of giving? Hehehehe..

This year, I have decided to streamline my cakes.. Besides the fruitcakes, layer cakes and sugee cakes, I have added on a very warm and toasty Ginger cake with is so good with a good cup of tea and this year's creation, Cranberry pumpkin cake. The response to these 2 cakes were overwhelming!! As I type this, I am still getting enquiries about them! Hahaha.. thanks to my customers who bought them and gave them out as gifts! Yay!!

Oh yes.. those tied up with red ribbons are warm and toasty Ginger cake.. and those in burgandy ribbons are Cranberry pumpkin cake.... They are sold for RM35 each and dont say I didnt warn you.. they are addictive!!

And this.. is 3Kings for 2011. Hahahahaa.. same content.. a portion of sugee cake, fruitcake and layer cake all nicely packed up in a silver box with burgandy ribbons decorated with pretty Christmas decorations. Hehehe.. I have decided to go all silver this year..

This combo was sold for RM150 and it was a sold out!! Sold out... everything. even my extras were gone... I am truly blessed!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Happy Valentine's my dear friends...

Recent times, there were a lot of huu haa about Valentine's Day and how such celebration is immoral and is against some religion teaching. I should think that it is really not a big problem if it stop at that but for this religion to condemn and accuse another religion and link it to all sorts of immoral values, that is plain not nice. Infact, that is pure vicious!

Anyway, people should realise that it is not Love or its celebration that is immoral.. it is HUMAN! It is us who twist and turn and immoral anything and everything! So, if this certain religion has an issue with immorality, they should take it up with the CORRECT source.. and that is the people! or rather, their own type of people and leave the rest of the people out of their fanatical tentacles! Sheesh!

So, the ranting is done, it is time to celebrate LOVE! Love is never bad.. love is never wrong, love is always better than hate or worse war.. (so, to those fanatics out there who is trying to force their ideology down other people's throat, please!! please chill!!). Love most definitely move mountains, shake the earth and make we human do the impossible! So, how can we not celebrate LURVE! YES, lurve in its full glory.....

Gifts - Hampers for Raya

Tadaaaaa!!!! This is the reason for the "a bit" quiet time from this blog. I was so busy getting everything ready for my Raya hampers. Yes, everything was home made...

This is RM280.It has a very practical but pretty mengkuang box design to put all sorts of knick knacks.. which I fill it up with 3 types of cookies, 1 indonesian layer cake, 1 box of dates, a bottle of dried fruit chutney or what is known as acar buah jeruk and a bottle of syrup.

This is RM220. A lovely mengkuang basket filled with 3 types of cookies, a very yummy kurma cake, a bottle of preserved fruits chutney or what is known as acar buah jeruk and lastly, a stick of really yummy kueh durian. Seriously.. the kueh durian is terribly yummmsss.. no stopping type.

And this.. is RM150. A very simple combination of 3 types of cookies with either a box of tea or preserved fruit chutney or a box of dates or.. oh! the combination can be anything!!

The thing is this.. with my hampers, nothing is strictly by the books.. I, afterall, am here to create great gifts to please your recipients... So, do call if you like to have such lovely gifts made.

Indonesian Layer Cake

I remember when I first learn how to make this cake... I had to go thru so many rounds of despair and tears.. yes, literally tears..... The ingredients are expensive and the initial 10 times were failures!! Oh yes, I did try the sneaky thing..substitute the expensive butter with the normal butter you get from the supermarket and the result was "I could have kicked myself!" Fail wasnt even close... Anyway, each time I fail, my aunt who is my teacher, will tell me this..."Never mind la.. feed it to the stray dogs.. try again." Hahahahahaha.... So, imagine me wasting expensive ingredients and sitting infront of a hot oven practising and practising and practising.. learning how to get the texture right, the layers right.. Boy! those were the days....

Anyway, when I finally got this cake right.. the right texture.. the right oiliness, the right layers, I was so happy! I kept a portion of that 1st successful cake in the freezer for a very long time. Hey! it took me a lot to get it right ok.. I just wanna have something to remind me of my hard work. Hahahaha... You might asked why is it so hard for me to get it right.. the answer is that I didnt want to use any enhancer or stabilizers to keep the egg batter fluffy. I want it to be traditional because my daughter loves to eat this cake and I didnt want her to eat all these chemicals. God knows what side effects these chemicals might have or if such chemicals will manifest into something nasty in years to come. I am a firm believer of no enhancer! No point eating something that is chemically enhanced. It is not a real deal.

So, since I have mastered this cake, I have been making them ocassionally. The reason being is it's time consuming and patience is an important ingredient in making this cake, both which I sorely lack nowadays with my Foodelicious! growing steadily. Of course, the other reason is that the ingredients needed to make this cake have gone up so many folds! Yes, expensive doesnt come close to describing the exorbitant increase! Hence, I only make this cake when there is a bulk request and customers are willing to pay.

Yes, the selling price for these "treasures" are RM85 for a 6"x6" and RM140 for a 9"x9" size. Yes, only 2 sizes and I need at least 4 days notice to get it done.

Yumms! and I had them delivered just in time for tea....

Festive Hampers

Have a look at my creation for the recent Hari Raya season...

This picnic basket was specially created for an outdoor loving person... A bottle of sparkling juice or imported cordial, 2 different types of homemade cookies, 350gm of Australian dried apricots and most definitely a box of belgian chocolates, all at RM300.

This hamper has a bottle of sparkling juice, 2 different types of homemade yummilicious cookies, 350gm of Australian dried apricots, a bottle of homemade addictive spicy acar, 2 boxes of imported chocolates and a choice of homemade cake at RM400.

This is a very dainty selection of all homemade goodies... spicy acar, 3 different types of cookies all snugly packed in a hand woven basket. This was sold at RM200.

The
great thing about my creation is my customers are given a free hand to dictate what they would like to have in their hampers and this adds personal touch. Anyway, there are a few more hamper variants which I have yet to upload (lazy is part of the reason, mood is another...) but I will get it done one of these days... Sigh..
