Gifts - Hampers for Raya

Tadaaaaa!!!! This is the reason for the "a bit" quiet time from this blog. I was so busy getting everything ready for my Raya hampers. Yes, everything was home made...

This is RM280.It has a very practical but pretty mengkuang box design to put all sorts of knick knacks.. which I fill it up with 3 types of cookies, 1 indonesian layer cake, 1 box of dates, a bottle of dried fruit chutney or what is known as acar buah jeruk and a bottle of syrup.

This is RM220. A lovely mengkuang basket filled with 3 types of cookies, a very yummy kurma cake, a bottle of preserved fruits chutney or what is known as acar buah jeruk and lastly, a stick of really yummy kueh durian. Seriously.. the kueh durian is terribly yummmsss.. no stopping type.

And this.. is RM150. A very simple combination of 3 types of cookies with either a box of tea or preserved fruit chutney or a box of dates or.. oh! the combination can be anything!!

The thing is this.. with my hampers, nothing is strictly by the books.. I, afterall, am here to create great gifts to please your recipients... So, do call if you like to have such lovely gifts made.

Pickles! Pickles! Pickles!

I made these in preparation of the many heavy feasting I will be having during Chinese New Year... what else is there to do for a Chinese who dont gamble or drink or gossip?? Hehehe..

The truth is, the weather is extremely hot nowadays and this make me very sleepy and easily irritated. This makes me "appetite less" to eat anything.. this makes me no mood to do anything but zzz.. hibernate...

So, this is what I made... pickled lotus roots.. very easy and yummy and addictive! The best thing about this pickle is that when you open up the bottle, it smells like lychee.. yumms!

The next is pickled mangoes..with a twist.. added some chili padi and sour plums. The whole effect is simply divine!!!!

Having these 2 appetizers are what gets me thru dinner of rich and oily chinese food.....

Appetite Teaser - Apple Chutney

This was one of the many little recipes that I wanted to try but never found the time to do it until my break...

It is quite easy to make apple chutney.. green apples are needed together with preserved plums, raisins and pickled radish. The tricky part is to balance everything with the spices used to get this highly addictive appetite teaser. The taste is very distinct and I suppose that is what make it so addictive and it is best eaten with papadums!

I have yet decide if I should sell this.. hehee.. I havent got enough of it to part with it yet. Perhaps I shall introduce this humble appetizer in one of my parties? Hmmmm..

Tidbits - Pickled Fruit Chutney

This is also known as Acar Buah Jeruk and usually served in wedding kenduri. It is not easily available at any place or restaurants or supermarkets or cafes.. hence, I made them for sale! I usually have pickled mangoes, all sorts of pickled plums and kumquats, nutmeg in chunks and julienne and raisins all mixed up with a kaleidescope of spices and dried chilis.. It is simply addictively yummy!

This acar buah jeruk or pickled fruit chutney is good with rice, crackers, bbq or simply on its own...... A bottle of approximately 500gm is sold at RM25.
