Loh Mai Kai for breakfast

This is an all time favorite.... glutinous rice with mushroom and chicken all nicely seasoned with evergreen seasoning like soya sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil and a dash of pepper and a pinch of salt.. simple but awesome! It's a great dish for breakfast or snacking.. hehehehehe.... nothing beats a good wholesome snack anytime of the day!

Anyway, I had this nagging craving for this for the longest time. The ones sold outside didnt do the trick, I should know.. hahahhaa.. but being lazy, I thought my craving can be satisfied by getting a serving from the "mills"... hahahaa.. So, when craving wasn't satisfied, I know I have to get my lazy ass up and start making a batch.....

Lazy as I am, I didnt bother to put them into cups or bowls.. I just put them in a tray and when it's ready, it smell so good... I love the taste of steamed glutinous rice.. it has that springy feel and a certain aroma that incite one to eat and eat and eat and eat.. ok! enough said. Hahahaha..

So, I kept some for my snack and the rest I brought to work and share.. it was indeed a joyous occasion where everyone enjoyed a good hearty breakfast!

Local delicacy - Peach shaped angkoo

I have always wanted to make this shape of angkoo for the longest time but never got a chance until now. A traditional shape to represent baby girl in full moon celebration. And finally, I got my chance. Hehehehehe... It's rather difficult to make this shape as it's irregular and has a lot of corners but the effort to make this is well worth it. Look at how pretty these are!!

The full moon baby's mama was so impressed with these and so were the guests. These were all gobbled up before they even have the cake cutting ceremony! hahahaha... and the full moon baby's papa quietly came over and tell me.."if you are ever making any full moon packs again or angkoos, please give us a shout! We want to tumpang order for our own consumption.." hahahahahhaa....

Cravings for Sui Kow

The other day I walked by a restaurant and saw everyone was having sui kows, (dumplings) and instantly wanted to have some. However, as I dont consume pork, sui kows sold outside are not for me.. hehehee.. so, arm with mince chicken, prawns and fish paste, some water chestnuts, chinese mushrooms, spring onions and shredded carrots, I set out to make my own sui kows.. It's a easy peasy process that can be quite therapeutic....hehehehe.. A little bit of everything could give me quite a few sui kows which I kept the balance in the fridge in an air tight container for consumption as and when I like.. hehehe..

I had my first round of sui kows with lots of choy sum from my garden in a simple ikan bilis soup. Other times, I had my sui kow with some mee suah soup with lots of vege, or simply steam and eat it just like that or deep fried them is yummy too!! Nothing beats a home made sui kow.. I love it! Hehehehe..

Fun Rolls

This has been in fashion for the longest time but I was just too busy with work and baking to have time to try it out. So, during the recent Raya holidays, I finally had time to do some experiments and was very pleased with my artwork. Hehehehe... and yes, will be making more of such fun rolls.

For this first time experiment, I made simple hearts and dots pattern and slap on home made buttercream and strawberry compote as filling. The end result was pretty! Hehehehe.. I am now thinking of other designs I can make for this fun rolls. Oh yes, the sponge cake is superb.. old fashion sponge cake with no chemical enhancers added on but yet soft and moist. That's what I like.

Will there be more?? Hehehee.. oh yes!

Passionfruit Marshmallows

Last year I tried growing passion fruit from seeds of the fruit and I was so excited when it grew. After much care and patience, yes, it's a very slow growing plant and even slower to flower and bear fruits and ripe! I was blessed with fruits! Hehehehehe... as I had the option of keeping the fruit on the vine, I noticed that the fruit is definitely much sweeter compared to the ones I could get from the market. It was simply smashing!

So, when the many fruits started to ripe all at once, I had a challenging time as to how to use up the passionfruits and that's when I remembered eating this awesome marshmallow from dish restaurant. Thus, I set out on my quest to make that same awesome marshmallows.. Hehehehe...

What I never like about marshmallows is that it's simply SWEET! I could never stomach the sweetness, although I consider myself as someone who can take quite a bit of sugar. But I like is the cloud like texture and in the case of marshmallow from dish restaurant, I simply like the melt in the mouth and tangy taste. It was love... hahahaha.. so, the first two rounds of marshmallow making was not quite successful. Partly could be that I cut down on the sugar.. and partly could be that I am impatient. Hehehehe.. will go disturb and cut up the marshmallow before it's time. I was more or less successful on the 3rd round...

This time around, I added back on some of the sugar (decreasing the sugar by only 100gm instead of 200gm) and adjusting the liquid, I was very encouraged with the outcome. And this round, I was patient, letting it set and ready before I sink my knife into the spongy, cloudy marshmallow. The taste is simply simply awesome. I love the tanginess of the passionfruit making it not sickly sweet, although, yes, it was still too sweet for me. Texture wise, it was so good... hehehehee.. now I know why children loves such things.. it's like a dream...

I am so happy with myself.. I finally succeeded in my quest.. I dont think I will sell this as our weather is not cooperative and let's face it.. seriously, who actually will want to gobble up so much marshmallows??? Hehehehe...

Raya Corporate Cakes

A friend of mine was looking for a special gift for Raya celebration and I casually proposed to her to use her company's logo with added greetings as the picture on a rich sugee cake. Little did I know that the idea was bought and I had 40 cakes order for this! Yay!

Each cake was sold at RM145 with ribbons and box. Yes, the box is no big shake but with less than 3 weeks to go, one cannot expect miracles! But anyway, my friend's boss was very happy with the cake and so were their clients..

I must say that I am indeed very blessed!! Besides the rich sugee cake gifts, orders for my layer cakes were pouring in too. These decorated layer cakes were sold for RM180 each. They are the usual Indonesian layer cakes and yes, there was an option for prunes layer too at RM200 each.
